  1.                  WELCOME TO THE ARGUS RESTAURANT DATABASE!!

  4. AN INTRODUCTION...

  6. The Argus Restaurant Database is a first-of-its-kind computerized res-
  7. taurant guide compiled and maintained by Computer-Based Communications,
  8. Inc.  The Restaurant Database contains information on hundreds of
  9. restaurants in the Greater Boston area which you can easily sort through
  10. to find the perfect restaurant for every occasion.  There is ample
  11. information on each participating restaurant in an easy-to-read color
  12. listing that you can browse through at the end of your successful search.
  13. In addition, many restaurants are also displaying their menus, great 
  14. money-saving coupons, and other valuable information that you won't find
  15. in existing restaurant guides.

  17. The Argus Restaurant Database is a helpful resource for meeting or event
  18. planners and coordinators of office social events as well as for those of
  19. you who are frequent restaurant goers.  The database is designed to give 
  20. you the most helpful information in the most useful (and fun!) format, as
  21. assessed through our research with a large sample of consumers.  We are
  22. doing our best to continually improve the Restaurant Database as a
  23. result of continuing consumer feedback, so we would be happy to hear your
  24. comments and suggestions.

  26. If this is your first time using the database, please read through all of
  27. the information files off of the Argus Restaurant Database Main Menu.  
  28. The more informed you are, the more useful this database will be.

  30. There are currently several ways for you to get and use the Restaurant
  31. Database on a regular basis.  There is a working copy of the Argus
  32. Restaurant Database on CBC's free online service, Argus Computerized
  33. Exchange (617-862-9373) which you can access with your (IBM compatible
  34. or non-IBM compatible) computer and modem, seven days a week 21 hours
  35. a day.  A "portable" version of the database is also available on Argus
  36. for download.  This download can be used on IBM or IBM compatible
  37. computers only.  The portable version of the Restaurant Database is also
  38. being distributed by subscription on diskette for IBM or IBM compatible
  39. computers.  And you can make free copies of the portable database at
  40. several area PC stores. (The portable version of the Restaurant Database
  41. is what you are using now.)

  44. KEEP CURRENT!

  46. The information in our online version of the Restaurant Database is being
  47. updated daily and the portable, offline database (the one you are using
  48. now) is updated monthly and posted in the Argus File Library.  Be sure to
  49. obtain the latest copy of the database each month by calling the Argus
  50. Helpline at 617-674-2359, by downloading your own update from Argus, or
  51. by making a copy of the latest database at a local PC store.  If you wish
  52. to download a copy of the database from Argus, type GO EATOUT from the
  53. Argus Main Menu and then choose "D" to download, from the next menu.
  54. The file you will be downloading is called RESTDB.EXE and it's about 700K
  55. in zipped form.
